These diaries were given to the Library by John Douglas Forbes of Charlottesville, Virginia, on July 17, 1986.
Scope and Content Information
This collection of thirteen items, ca. 1938-1979, contains eight five-year diaries, three travel diaries, a set of picture postcards of Iran, and a bibliography (compiled by John Douglas Forbes) of references to Thomas Fortune Ryan (1851-1928), a millionaire businessman born in Nelson County , Virginia.
The travel diaries describe trips to Italy (1961), Greece (1967), and Iran (1974), listing many of the places and buildings that Margaret Forbes visited. The regular diaries record Mrs. Forbes' and her family's daily activities, social life, trips, the weather, and her children's development.
